Proseguiamo la nostra visita di Bangkok. Partendo sempre dalla zona di Khao San Road a piedi si puo' raggiungere la Golden Mountain su cui è sito il Wat Saket.
La Golden Mountain è una bassa collinetta costruita con materiale di risulta durante il periodo di Ayutthaya 1350-1767 D.C. Per raggiungere la sommità bisogna salire 300 gradini che abbracciano con una lunga spirale la circoferenza esterna. Il percorso è agevole e gode dell'ombra di molti alberi.
Al termine del percorso potrete trovare il Wat Saket, tempio meta di pellegrinaggi soprattutto nel mese di Novembre durante la festa dei Loy Krathong. La caratteristica principale del tempio è un chedi dorato alto 58 metri che conserva al suo interno una reliquia del Buddha.
Ovviamente da qui si puo' godere di una visuale a 360° sulla zona storica di Bangkok.
Una volta conclusa la vostra visita potete cominciare a scendere e una volta in basso potete raggiungere nelle immediate vicinanze il Phanfa Bridge, una volta attraversato sulla destra toverete la via di accesso al piccolo imbarcadero da cui parte un barcone con cui potrete raggiungere sia la zona dei grandi centri commerciali, sia la casa di Jim Thompson.
Consiglio vivamente questa soluzione perchè consente di evitare il traffico di Bangkok ma anche perchè vi consente una visione inusuale della città. Dato che non amo troppo i centri commerciali, per il momento ci dirigiamo verso la casa di Jim Thompson, che è oggi un museo ricavato in quella che fu la reale residenza dell'imprenditore statunitense, vissuto a Bangkok nella prima metà degli anni '60 del secolo scorso. Scomparve poi nel nulla durante un viaggio in Malesia.
La sua casa è davvero particolare perchè in realtà si tratta di sei abitazioni in teak, del XIX secolo, che Thompson fece arrivare appositamente da Ayutthaya, poi rimontate e adattate per creare una unica abitazione. All'interno è conservata la sua collezione d'arte con alcuni pezzi antichi e di particolare interesse. Si puo' visitare solo in gruppi con visita guidata, nell'attesa potete godere del giardino e dell'esibizione di alcune danze tradizionali. Nelle immediate adiacenze è presente un punto vendita dei prodotti della maison Jim Thompson e anche un ristorante di livello pari all'eleganza della casa.

We continue our visit of Bangkok. Starting from the Khao San Road area we walk to the Golden Mountain where Wat Saket is located.
The Golden Mountain is a low hill built with waste material during the Ayutthaya period 1350-1767 A.D. To reach the top you have to climb 300 steps that embrace the outer circumference in a long spiral. The route is easy and shaded by many trees.
At the end of the path you will find Wat Saket, a temple that is a pilgrimage destination, especially in November during the Loy Krathong festival. The main feature of the temple is a 58-metre-high golden chedi with a Buddha relic inside.
Obviously from here you can enjoy a 360° view of the historic area of Bangkok.
Once you have finished your visit you can start to descend and once at the bottom you can reach the Phanfa Bridge in the immediate vicinity, once crossed on the right you will find the way to access the small pier from which a boat leaves with which you can reach both the area of large shopping malls and the home of Jim Thompson.
I highly recommend this solution because it allows you to avoid the traffic of Bangkok but also because it gives you an unusual view of the city. Since I don't like shopping malls too much, for the moment we head to Jim Thompson's house, which is now a museum in what was the real residence of the American entrepreneur who lived in Bangkok in the first half of the 1960s. He disappeared during a trip to Malaysia.
His house is very special because it is actually six teak houses, dating from the 19th century, which Thompson had specially flown in from Ayutthaya, then reassembled and adapted to create a single house. Inside is his art collection with some antique and particularly interesting pieces. It can only be visited in groups with a guided tour, while waiting you can enjoy the garden and the performance of some traditional dances. In the immediate vicinity there is a shop selling Jim Thompson products and also a restaurant of a level equal to the elegance of the house.
