"Il mare è così bello che potrete provare solo nostalgia ancor prima di partire e riuscirete a sopportare la partenza solo perché consapevoli di poter tornare.."

Con questa frase concludevo il post dedicato alla vacanza a koh Lipe di novembre 2019, prima che succedesse tutto: pandemia, lockdown, incidente, Covid-19, problemi cardiaci, ecc... Mentre accadeva tutto questo avevo almeno un punto fermo: la prima vacanza possibile sarebbe stata a koh Lipe, per la grande nostalgia, per il bisogno di ritrovarmi in un ambiente bello e rilassante. Nell'arco di questi mesi per ben tre volte ho prenotato e per tre volte ho dovuto disdire...

Immaginate quindi il mio stato d'animo quando il 16 aprile sono arrivata in aeroporto qui a Chiang Mai, alle cinque e trenta del mattino, e la tipa della VietJet mi ha comunicato che il mio volo delle 06:45 era cancellato... Partenza rinviata alle 08:00. Tutto questo si è tradotto nel dover trascorrere una notte nel "Bara Resort" di Pak Bara dopo aver perso la barca per raggiungere l'isola. La sensazione di arrivare ogni volta più vicina all'obbiettivo e vederlo ogni volta spostato in avanti. Infine riesco ad arrivare a destinazione domenica 17 aprile, all'ora di pranzo. 

Per questa seconda vacanza a Lipe ho optato per alloggiare a Sunrise beach presso Castaway resort in un bel bungalow tutto in legno, con ampio patio.

Questo tipo di alloggio non ha aria condizionata ma solo un ventilatore, ma io non uso l'aria condizionata neanche a casa quindi mi sono trovata benissimo.

Quello che invece ho sofferto di più è la mancanza dello spruzzino vicino al water. Sono ormai talmente abituata che alla prima seduta ho trascorso alcuni secondi cercando con le mani di raggiungere il prezioso strumento e scoprendo così con angoscia la sua assenza. 

Sono stati giorni di assoluto relax e, dopo tutte le peripezie dei mesi passati, poter finalmente fare vita tra mare e bungalow è stato davvero rinvigorente.

Ho trovato una minuscola spiaggia, raggiungibile solo camminando nell'acqua e nuotando. Acqua limpida e pace assoluta. Ho recuperato un po' di tono muscolare e ogni giorno mi sono sentita meglio. 

Però per onestà devo, e ne sono molto dispiaciuta, raccontare anche alcuni aspetti meno piacevoli. Ho trovato l'isola molto sporca. Lungo le strade ci sono posizionati diversi cesti per la spazzatura ma forse c'è un problema poi nel servizio di svuotamento e raccolta e smaltimento. Purtroppo anche le spiagge presentano molti rifiuti e gli unici cestini li ho visti posizionati all'interno dei resort. Tornando spesso nelle stesse spiagge ho notato gli stessi rifiuti giacere per giorni e giorni. Ultima nota negativa è il gran numero di motorini e mezzi a motore, davvero centuplicato rispetto a due anni fa. Io sono consapevole che a volte questi mezzi sono indispensabili per lavorare, ecc... Ma temo che koh lipe entro qualche anno perda il suo primato di paradiso per appassionati di diving e natura.

"The sea is so beautiful that you will only feel nostalgic even before you leave and you will only be able to bear the departure because you know you can come back.."

With this sentence I was concluding the post dedicated to my November 2019 holiday to koh Lipe, before everything happened: pandemic, lockdown, accident, Covid-19, heart problems, etc... While all this was happening I had at least one fixed point: the first possible holiday would be to koh Lipe, because of the great nostalgia, the need to find myself in a beautiful and relaxing environment. In the course of these months I booked three times and three times I had to cancel.... 

So imagine my mood when on 16 April I arrived at the airport here in Chiang Mai, at half past five in the morning, and the VietJet lady told me that my flight at 06:45 was cancelled... Departure postponed to 08:00. All this resulted in having to spend a night in the "Bara Resort" in Pak Bara after missing the boat to reach the island. The feeling of arriving closer to the goal each time and seeing it moved forward each time. Finally I manage to arrive at my destination on Sunday 17 April, at lunchtime. For this second holiday in Lipe I opted to stay at Sunrise beach at Castaway resort in a beautiful all-wood bungalow with a large patio. This type of lodging does not have air conditioning but only a fan, but I do not use the air conditioning even at home so I had a great time. What I suffered more is the lack of a sprayer near the toilet. I'm so used to it by now that at the first session I spent a few seconds trying to reach the precious instrument with my hands and was distressed to discover its absence. 

They were days of absolute relaxation and, after all the vicissitudes of the past months, finally being able to live life between the sea and the bungalow was really invigorating. I found a tiny beach, reachable only by walking in the water and swimming. Clear water and absolute peace. I regained some muscle tone and felt better every day. 

However, to be honest, I have to tell you about some of the less pleasant aspects. I found the island very dirty. Along the roads there are several rubbish bins, but perhaps there is a problem with the emptying, collection and disposal service. Unfortunately the beaches also have a lot of rubbish and the only bins I saw were placed inside the resorts. Returning often to the same beaches I noticed the same waste lying around for days on end. The last negative note is the large number of mopeds and motor vehicles, which has increased a hundredfold compared to two years ago. I am aware that sometimes these vehicles are indispensable for work, etc.... But I fear that within a few years Kohipe will lose its supremacy as a paradise for diving and nature lovers.

Le mie ultime vacanze risalgono al capodanno 2019/2020, poi la pandemia e un incidente hanno fatto sì che a parte un paio di fine settimana dedicati a delle gite, io non ho più fatto vacanze. Sentivo quindi la necessità di ricaricarmi, ma dato che la Thailandia è ancora soggetta a molte restrizioni e che la situazione può variare da un momento all'altro ho preferito non allontanarmi da Chiang Mai.

Andare a trascorrere un fine settimana lungo a venti chilometri da casa a qualcuno può sembrare una scelta ridicola, invece ha funzionato alla grande. I dintorni di Chiang Mai sono bellissimi e tra montagne e campi di riso si possono scoprire dei piccoli gioielli. Uno di questi è senz'altro il Country Retreat a mae rim. Un resort di piccole dimensioni in mezzo a verdissimi campi di riso, con un giardino molto curato e una piscina che favorisce l'assoluto relax, con di fianco un bar che in questi giorni rimane inutilizzato a causa delle prescrizioni sulla vendita di alcol.

Dalla piscina si accede ad un comodissimo "sala" al centro di un campo di riso con comode sedute e amache.

La vista può spaziare fino alle montagne intorno, in alcuni momenti il cielo è già molto limpido tra una pioggia e l'altra. Ad abbellire il panorama un piccolo tempio di campagna, con una statua di Budda che sembra galleggiare sopra le spighe del riso.

Con la luce notturna è molto suggestivo e la mattina all'alba il canto dei monaci dona al tutto un'atmosfera fiabesca, insieme ai suoni di coloratissime nectarinie e uccellini vari.

Un evento eccezionale che può accadervi al Country Retreat prima di andare a dormire è vedere le lucciole, la loro scomparsa è stato uno degli eventi che ha simbolicamente segnato il declino delle civiltà moderne incapaci di contenere l'inquinamento, come denunciato a suo tempo dal profetico intellettuale italiano Pier Paolo Pasolini. 

Io sono arrivata il venerdì nel primo pomeriggio, ho trascorso gran parte del pomeriggio nella piscina, abbastanza grande da poter fare qualche bracciata, con anche delle bocchette per idromassaggio e una temperatura dell'acqua assolutamente gradevole. 

Il sabato mattina sono stata raggiunta da tre amiche e dopo un po' di polleggio nel ristornate abbiamo (hanno) noleggiato le biciclette e siamo (io in motorino) andate a fare un giro. La nostra meta era l'Erotic Garden che è a meno di un chilometro di distanza ma lo abbiamo trovato chiuso, ci siamo quindi dirette al tempio e poi è iniziata una faticosa ricerca di un posto dove mangiare. L'unico che abbiamo trovato ha soddisfatto però solo due di noi in quanto serve solo noodles con carne. Qui un signore già avanti con gli anni con molta emozione è venuto a servirci utilizzando le sue nozioni di inglese. Una volta tornate al resort due delle amiche sono ripartite mentre una terza è rimasta. Abbiamo quindi proseguito il pomeriggio in piscina, osservando il monsone che si avvicinava, per poi oltrepassarci, mentre i colori intorno cambiavano continuamente le loro sfumature, grazie anche alla luce del tramonto. 

Il ristorante del resort merita sicuramente, cucina thai, preparata al momento, nulla di precotto, ingredienti freschi e molti di produzione propria. 

La coppia di padroni di casa è molto socievole e attentissima ad ogni esigenza degli ospiti.

Non mancano due dolcissimi cani e un maiale che crede di essere un cane.

 My last holidays date back to New Year's Eve 2019/2020, then the pandemic and an accident meant that apart from a couple of weekends dedicated to trips, I didn't take any more holidays. I therefore felt the need to recharge, but as Thailand is still subject to many restrictions and the situation can change from one moment to the next I preferred not to stray far from Chiang Mai.

Spending a long weekend twenty kilometres from home may seem ridiculous to some, but it worked out great. The surroundings of Chiang Mai are beautiful and between mountains and rice fields you can discover little gems. One of these is undoubtedly the Country Retreat in Mae Rim. A small resort in the middle of green rice fields, with a well-kept garden and a swimming pool that encourages absolute relaxation, with a bar next to it, which these days remains unused due to regulations on the sale of alcohol. From the pool there is access to a very comfortable "sala" in the middle of a rice field with comfortable seating and hammocks. The view extends as far as the surrounding mountains, and at times the sky is already very clear between one rain and another. The view is enhanced by a small country temple with a Buddha statue that seems to float above the ears of rice. In the night light it is very impressive and in the morning at dawn the singing of the monks gives the whole place a fairy-tale atmosphere, together with the sounds of colourful nectarinias and various birds.

An exceptional event that can happen to you at the Country Retreat before going to sleep is to see the fireflies, their disappearance was one of the events that symbolically marked the decline of modern civilizations unable to contain pollution, as denounced in his time by the prophetic Italian intellectual Pier Paolo Pasolini. 

I arrived on Friday in the early afternoon and spent most of the afternoon in the pool, which was big enough to take a few strokes in, with hydromassage jets and an absolutely pleasant water temperature. 

On Saturday morning I was joined by three friends and after a bit of lounging in the restaurant we (they) rented bikes and went for a ride. Our destination was the Erotic Garden which is less than a kilometre away but we found it closed, so we headed to the temple and then began a laborious search for a place to eat. The only one we found satisfied only two of us as it only serves noodles with meat. Here a gentleman who was already well advanced in years came to serve us with great emotion using his knowledge of English. Once back at the resort two of our friends left and a third stayed. We have therefore continued the afternoon in the swimming pool, observing the monsoon that was approaching, to then pass us, while the colours around continually changed their shadings, thanks also to the light of the sunset. 

The restaurant of the resort deserves for sure, thai cuisine, prepared at the moment, nothing precooked, fresh ingredients and many of own production. 

The couple of hosts are very sociable and attentive to every need of the guests. There are also two very sweet dogs and a pig who thinks he is a dog.

"Sono arrivato qui 15 anni fa, avevo chiesto il permesso ai miei superiori, volevo fare l'eremita... Qui non c'era nulla, ma proprio nulla e adesso non c'è mai silenzio" ride mentre ci racconta della sua impossibilità a realizzarsi nel suo percorso spirituale.

L'abate di Hantalae, l'unico monastero buddista presente a koh Lipe, nonostante tutto sembra non aver perso la sua serenità. Ho voluto iniziare con il suo racconto perchè in poche parole ha sintetizzato l'incredibile "sviluppo" che ha avuto questa minuscola isola al confine con la Malesia. Koh Lipe fa parte dell'arcipelago  Adang-Rawi nello stretto di Malacca, misura 2,5 km per 2 e questo permette di poterla girare interamente a piedi. Da Ottobre a Giugno puo' essere raggiunta da diverse località da cui i viaggiatori possono prendere un traghetto o motoscafo per Ko Lipe, tra cui: Ko Lanta, Pak Bara, Phi Phi Phi, Trang e Langkawi (Malesia). Durante la bassa stagione (da metà giugno a metà ottobre), l'unico modo per raggiungere Koh Lipe è in motoscafo da Pak Bara.

Il traghetto da Langkawi a Ko Lipe opera da metà ottobre a metà giugno. Da Langkawi, i viaggiatori possono partire/arrivare a Kuah Jetty Terminal o Telaga Harbour Terminal. Da Koh Lipe, i viaggiatori possono partire/arrivare al Bundhaya Resort o alla spiaggia di Pattaya. Il viaggio dura circa 1 ora e 30 minuti.

All'andata sono andata in aereo da Chiang Mai facendo scalo a Bangkok con la Smile Airways, mentre al ritorno ho viaggiato con Air Asia direttamente da Hat Yay a Chiang Mai. Dall'aereoporto di Hat Yay ho preso il van per raggiungere il molo di Pak Bara, transfer prenotato tramite il sito 12Go Asia. A koh Lipe ho soggiornato presso il Green View Beach Resort, direttamente sulla spiaggia di Pattaya, bungalow interamente in bamboo ma con bagno in muratura, con veranda, strutture molto semplici ma sicuramente comode. La pulizia delle stanze è quotidiana e il personale molto cordiale e pronto ad aiutare per qualsiasi necessità.

Ora che avete tutti i riferimenti per un soggiorno sull'isola veniamo all'unico motivo per cui vale la pena arrivare fin qua ovvero il mare!

Qui potrete vedere davvero tutte le sfumature dal blu al verde, passando per il turchese. L'alta concentrazione di scuole di diving è la dimostrazione che ci si trova nel paradiso per subacquei e amanti dello snorkelling. Le spiagge principali sono tre: a sud Pattaya beach, ad est Sunrise beach e ad ovest Sunset beach, le dimensioni dell'isola fanno sì che potrete tranquillamente visitarle tutte in una sola giornata. Esistono poi decine di piccole spiagge più o meno nascoste, personalmente ho molto apprezzato quelle a nord. In particolare ho trascorso due giornate presso Benny's On The Beach Koh Lipe dove potete usufruire di lettini e ombrellone consumando fantastici smoothies e cibo vegeteriano e vegano.

Una intera giornata l'abbiamo dedicata ad una gita in barca per snorkelling e visita ad altre isole. Abbiamo beccato la giornata più piovosa dell'intera vacanza, per fortuna il "capitano" è stato molto abile facendoci approdare in isole dotate di strutture, anche minime, dove poterci riparare. Ho poche foto di questa giornata perchè terrorizzata all'idea di esporre la macchina fotografica a tanta acqua.

In ogni caso siamo riusciti a fare snorkelling e devo dire che è davvero stupefacente vedere così tanta bellezza sottomarina. Il "capitano" mi ha anche fatto da guida e mostrato alcune meraviglie che da sola non sarei riuscita a vedere, gigantesche stelle marine e pesci dalle straordinarie abilità mimetiche come una razza bianca sul fondale di sabbia bianca e uno scorfano, pesci pagliaccio, idoli moreschi e pesci chirurgo e tanti altri di cui non conosco il nome con dei colori fantastici. Preferisco tralasciare il racconto delle salite e discese dalla barca, di cui porto ancora i segni ma davvero ne valeva la pena. Per lo snorkelling abbiamo usufruito della Koh Lipe Star Travel ma ci sono molte agenzie sull'isola i programmi sono gli stessi e anche i prezzi.

"I came here 15 years ago, I asked my superiors for permission, I wanted to be a hermit... There was nothing here, but nothing at all, and now there is never silence," he laughs as he tells us of his inability to be fulfilled in his spiritual journey.

The abbot of the only Buddhist monastery present in koh Lipe despite everything seems not to have lost his serenity. I wanted to start with his story because in a few words he summarized the incredible "development" that has had this tiny island on the border with Malaysia. Koh Lipe is part of the Adang-Rawi archipelago in the Strait of Malacca, measuring 2.5 km by 2 and this allows you to turn it entirely on foot. From October to June it can be reached from several locations from which travelers can take a ferry or motorboat to Ko Lipe, including: Ko Lanta, Pak Bara, Phi Phi Phi, Trang and Langkawi (Malaysia). During the low season (mid-June to mid-October), the only way to reach Ko Lipe is by motorboat from Pak Bara.

The ferry from Langkawi to Ko Lipe operates from mid-October to mid-June. From Langkawi, travellers can depart from/arrive at Kuah Jetty Terminal or Telaga Harbour Terminal. From Ko Lipe, travellers can depart from/arrive at Bundhaya Resort or Pattaya beach. The journey takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

On the way there I flew from Chiang Mai to Bangkok with Smile Airways, while on the way back I travelled with Air Asia directly from Hat Yay to Chiang Mai. From the airport of Hat Yay I took the van to reach the pier of Pak Bara, transfer booked through the site 12Go Asia. In koh Lipe I stayed at the Green View Beach Resort, directly on Pattaya beach, bungalows entirely in bamboo but with bathroom in masonry, with veranda, very simple structures but certainly comfortable. The cleanliness of the rooms is daily and the staff is very friendly and ready to help for any need.

Now that you have all the references for a stay on the island we come to the only reason why it is worth getting here which is the sea! Here you can really see all the nuances from blue to green, passing through the turquoise.

The high concentration of diving schools is proof that you are in the paradise for divers and snorkelers. There are three main beaches: Pattaya beach to the south, Sunrise beach to the east and Sunset beach to the west, the size of the island means that you can easily visit them all in one day. There are also dozens of small beaches more or less hidden, I have personally appreciated those in the north. In particular I spent two days at Benny's On The Beach Koh Lipe where you can enjoy sunbeds and umbrellas eating fantastic smoothies and vegetarian and vegan food.

We spent a full day on a boat trip to snorkel and visit other islands. We caught the rainiest day of the entire holiday, luckily the "captain" was very skilled making us land in islands with facilities, even minimal, where we can repair. I have few photos of this day because terrified at the idea of exposing the camera to so much water. In any case we managed to snorkel and I must say that it is really amazing to see so much underwater beauty. The "captain" also acted as a guide and showed me some wonders that alone I would not have been able to see, giant starfish and fish with extraordinary mimetic abilities as a white race on the bottom of white sand and a scorpion fish, clownfish, Moorish idols and surgeon fish and many others whose name I do not know with fantastic colors. I prefer to leave out the story of the ascents and descents from the boat, of which I still bear the signs but really worth it. For snorkelling we used the Koh Lipe Star Travel but there are many agencies on the island the programs are the same and also the prices.

The sea is so beautiful that you can feel only nostalgia even before leaving and you can bear the start only because you know you can return ... trusting in the power of the amulet received by the monk charged for my good fortune and to protect me from negativity ...
