BAMBINI GROTTE SPIRITI UN MAGO E IL POTERE - CHILDREN CAVES SPIRITS A MAGICIAN AND THE POWER

    La Thailandia ha tirato un sospiro di sollievo nella tarda mattinata di oggi quando, dopo tre giorni di ricerca, è arrivata la notizia del ritrovamento della piccola Gina che si pensava persa per sempre nella foresta. Ci sono ancora molti dettagli da chiarire ma già nella prima stesura questa vicenda sembra essere una sceneggiatura degna delle più note leggende della tradizione locale. I fatti certi sono che domenica sera è iniziato un orribile incubo per questa famiglia che abita in un remoto villaggio del nord della Thailandia, Ban Huay Fak Dap, nel comune di Inthanin nel distretto di Mae Taeng.   

Il papà era uscito a buttare la spazzatura, mentre la madre era intenta a cucinare, Gina, 23 mesi di età, era lì intorno alla casa che è vicina alla foresta. Come capita nella vita quotidiana di chi ha bambini piccoli ad un certo punto la mamma ha chiamato la piccola...senza ricevere risposta. Da questo momento cominciano le ricerche, i vicini di casa riferiscono di averla vista sulla strada, a dieci metri di distanza da casa, e questo è l'ultimo avvistamento. Il padre viene avvisato mentre torna a casa. Immediatamente si comincia a cercare nei pressi dell'abitazione e si cominciano a formulare varie ipotesi. Il papà rammenta di aver visto passare un auto di grossa cilindrata, richiamando subito il mito, con solide radici nella storia criminale, dei raid della mafia cinese che rapiva bambini nei villaggi del nord per inserirli nel circuito del turpe mercato della pedofilia. Ovviamente tra le ipotesi formulate hanno avuto spazio anche le adozioni irregolari e la compravendita di organi. Gli organismi di polizia si sono concentrati in realtà già da lunedì mattina su un soggetto 44enne di etnia lahu, vicino di casa e amico di famiglia. Nella cronaca è stato immediatamente identificato come birmano, perchè come sempre le autorità non ammettono che i cittadini senza documenti siano thai. Dopo tre giorni il sig. Siew ha iniziato a fare delle ammissioni, ha sempre affermato di non aver ucciso la bambina, di non averle fatto del male e di non averla abusata sessualmente. Infine questa mattina ha ammesso di essere un mago e, su richiesta dello spirito che abita in una determinata grotta, di aver offerto Gina in sacrificio, semplicemente lasciandola presso una capanna nei pressi dell'ingresso della grotta. Inizialmente le autorità sono andate a cercarla ma sbagliando sito, hanno perlustrato anche un pozzo naturale profondo circa 30 metri, pensando che Gina potesse esserci caduta dentro. Successivamente hanno chiesto al sig. Siew di andare con loro, l'uomo li ha condotti quindi fino alla capanna. Gina era lì, è apparsa un po' disorientata e fortemente disidratata ma viva! Il tempo di dissetarla e di organizzarsi ed è stata riportata al villaggio. Intanto ovviamente tutto il paese era ad attenderla e la giovane madre (23 anni) ha atteso tutto il tempo sotto un tendone e intanto decine di dirette streaming trasmettevano la lieta notizia. Nel canale da me seguito si sono registrati picchi di 300000 persone collegate. Per rassicurare la madre di tanto in tanto le inviavano video e foto della figlia. Ad attendere Gina al villaggio c'era anche un autoambulanza che l'ha immediatamente trasferita nel locale ospedale.

Questa vicenda mi ha fatto tornare in mente la storia dei 13 ragazzi che qualche anno fa rimasero intrappolati all'interno di una grotta, sempre qui al nord. I ragazzi si salvarono tutti, quella grotta era famosa per essere abitata dallo spirito della pricipessa che dorme e il loro ritrovamento avvenne il giorno dopo in cui un monaco celebro' alcuni rituali. Terminati i riti il monaco affermo' che i ragazzi erano tutti vivi e sarebbero stati ritrovati presto. L'immediata leggenda svelo' che il monaco era la reincarnazione del defunto figlio della principessa, quindi l'unico con i titoli per trattare con lo spirito della donna. Si dice quindi che il monaco chiese ed ottenne la liberazione dei 13 ragazzi. Tutto questo senza togliere alcun merito a tutti quegli uomini che si impegnarono notte e giorno nella ricerca e poi nella straordinaria operazione di salvataggio. Oggi il cattivo è il sig. Siew, come scritto sopra, definito di nazionalità birmana, dedito alla magia, che ha agito su richiesta dello spirito che abita quest'altra grotta. Questo spirito pero' deve poi aver avuto un ripensamento, forse si sarà lasciato intenerire dalla piccola e vispa Gina, insomma alla fine non le ha torto un capello. Credo di essere facile profeta nel prevedere che la capanna diventerà il luogo dove verranno depositate bevande di ogni genere, nel ricordo della sete sofferta dalla bambina e, allo stesso tempo, in segno di gratitudine allo spirito che non l'ha uccisa dimostrando di avere un cuore ben più compassionevole del sig. Siew, mago fai da te.

Ma poi siamo esseri umani con una scarsa familiarità con il divino e la notizia trapelata da fonti ospedaliere che Gina non avesse neanche un pizzico di zanzara ci riporta precipitosamente con i piedi nella terra degli umani. La piccola è stata forse tenuta in una abitazione e portata alla capanna soltanto oggi? Domande che continueranno ad occupare le pagine dei giornali locali e ad alimentare ipotesi e supposizioni...tutto purchè il popolo abbia una buona notizia di cui riverberare l'eco e tralasci di occuparsi del sempre più crescente movimento di protesta che da mesi manifesta nelle strade di Bangkok e anche, sia pure in dimensione minore, di Chiang Mai.

    Thailand breathed a sigh of relief late today when, after a three-day search, news arrived of the discovery of little Gina, thought to have been lost forever in the forest. There are still many details to be clarified, but even at first glance this story seems to be a script worthy of the best-known legends of local tradition. The certain facts are that on Sunday evening a horrible nightmare began for this family living in a remote village in northern Thailand, Ban Huay Fak Dap, in the municipality of Inthanin in the district of Mae Taeng.   The father had gone out to throw away the rubbish, while the mother was busy cooking, Gina, 23 months old, was there around the house which is close to the forest. As happens in the everyday life of those who have small children, at a certain point the mother called the little girl... without receiving an answer. The neighbours reported seeing her on the road, ten metres away from the house, and this was the last sighting. The father is alerted on his way home. Immediately, the search began in the vicinity of the house and various hypotheses were formulated. The father remembers having seen a large car drive by, immediately recalling the myth, with solid roots in criminal history, of the raids of the Chinese mafia who kidnapped children in the villages of the north to insert them into the circuit of the vile market of paedophilia. Obviously, irregular adoptions and the buying and selling of organs were also among the hypotheses formulated. As early as Monday morning, the police concentrated on a 44-year-old Lahu man, a neighbour and family friend. In the news, he was immediately identified as Burmese, because as usual the authorities do not admit that undocumented citizens are Thai. After three days, Mr Siew began to make admissions. He always claimed that he had not killed the girl, had not harmed her and had not sexually abused her. Finally, this morning he admitted that he was a magician and, at the request of the spirit living in a particular cave, that he had offered Gina as a sacrifice, simply leaving her in a hut near the entrance to the cave. Initially, the authorities went to look for her, but mistakenly went to the wrong site and also searched a natural well about 30 metres deep, thinking that Gina might have fallen into it. They then asked Mr Siew to go with them and he led them to the hut. Gina was there, looking a little disoriented and severely dehydrated, but alive! Time to quench her thirst and get organised and she was taken back to the village. In the meantime, of course, the whole village was waiting for her and the young mother (23 years old) waited under a tent while dozens of live streams transmitted the happy news. The channel I followed recorded peaks of 300,000 people connected. To reassure the mother, they sent her videos and photos of her daughter from time to time. An ambulance was waiting for Gina in the village and she was immediately transferred to the local hospital. 

This reminded me of the story of the 13 children who were trapped in a cave in the north of the country a few years ago. The boys were all saved, the cave was famous for being inhabited by the spirit of the sleeping princess and they were found the next day when a monk performed some rituals. At the end of the rituals, the monk claimed that the boys were all alive and would be found soon. The immediate legend revealed that the monk was the reincarnation of the princess' dead son, and therefore the only one with the qualifications to deal with the woman's spirit. It is therefore said that the monk asked for and obtained the release of the 13 boys. All this without taking any credit to all those men who worked night and day in the search and then in the extraordinary rescue operation. Today the evil one is Mr. Siew, as written above, defined as being of Burmese nationality, dedicated to magic, who acted at the request of the spirit that inhabits this other cave. This spirit, however, must have had a change of heart, perhaps he allowed himself to be softened by the small and lively Gina, and in the end he did not harm a hair on her head. I think I am an easy prophet in predicting that the hut will become the place where all kinds of drinks will be deposited, in memory of the thirst suffered by the little girl and, at the same time, as a sign of gratitude to the spirit who did not kill her, showing that he had a much more compassionate heart than Mr Siew, the do-it-yourself magician.

But then we are human beings with little familiarity with the divine, and the news leaked by hospital sources that Gina had not even a hint of a mosquito brings us hastily back to the land of humans. Was the little girl perhaps kept in a home and brought to the hut only today? Questions that will continue to occupy the pages of the local newspapers and feed hypotheses and suppositions...all as long as the people have good news to reverberate about and neglect to deal with the growing protest movement that has been demonstrating for months in the streets of Bangkok and also, albeit on a smaller scale, in Chiang Mai.
