WAT DOI THAEN PHRA PHA LUANG - TEMPIO NELLA FORESTA

I dintorni di Chiang Mai continuano ad offrire spunti per brevi gite, con il valore aggiunto di scoprire località e panorami splendidi. Ad una trentina di chilometri da casa mia esiste un tempio incastonato nella foresta, il wat doi thaen phra pha luang. L'ultimo tratto di strada è un'immersione nel verde assoluto, uno dei rarissimi luoghi dove non c'è segnale GPS e connessione internet. Ma davvero vi sentirete rigenerati nel respirare profondamente.

Il tempio ha un bel Buddha sdraiato posto alla base della collina e un particolare chedi ricoperto di tessere a specchio. Sembra che sia stato costruito più di 700 anni fa, prima ancora della fondazione della città di Chiang Mai. Il tempio al momento appare abbastanza trascurato anche se non manca un cantiere per la costruzione di qualche altra struttura.

Purtroppo non ho trovato molto materiale informativo ma sembra ci siano diverse leggende che riguardano questo tempio. Una attribuisce ad un demone guardiano la facoltà di consentire o meno all'ingresso di ltre creature spirituali. Un'altra leggenda sembra invece essere ancora viva e riguarda la protezione del tempio dagli incendi che ogni anno distruggono la foresta circostante,  Sembra sia protetto da un essere soprannaturale che impedisce venga attaccato dal fuoco, mentre altri attribuiscono questa protezione ad un tipo particolare di piante spontanee che circondano il tempio. 

Poco prima di arrivare al  wat doi thaen phra pha luang si trova il bacino d'acqua di Huai Cho, in cui le montagne circostani si riflettono moltiplicando le sfumature di verde. Sicuramente la foresta circostante sarà abitata da diversi animali selvatici, non essendomi adentrata ho potuto osservare soltanto un numero notevole di farfalle.

The immediate surroundings of Chiang Mai continue to offer opportunities for short trips, with the added value of discovering beautiful locations and views. About thirty kilometers from my house there is a temple set in the forest, the wat doi thaen phra pha luang. The last stretch of road is an immersion in absolute greenery, one of the very rare places where there is no GPS signal and internet connection. But you will really feel regenerated in breathing deeply. 

The temple has a beautiful lying Buddha at the base of the hill and a special chedi covered with mirror tiles. It seems that it was built more than 700 years ago, even before the founding of the city of Chiang Mai. The temple seems to be fairly neglected at the moment, although there is no lack of a construction site for the building of some other structure. 

Unfortunately I have not found much information material but it seems there are several legends about this temple. One attributes to a guardian demon the faculty to allow or not the entrance of other spiritual creatures. Another legend seems to be still alive and concerns the protection of the temple from the fires that destroy the surrounding forest every year. It seems to be protected by a supernatural being that prevents it from being attacked by fire, while others attribute this protection to a particular type of spontaneous plants that surround the temple. 

Just before arriving at the wat doi thaen phra pha luang there is a water basin of Huai Cho, in which the circumstantial mountains are reflected multiplying the shades of green. Surely the surrounding forest will be inhabited by several wild animals, not having entered I could only observe a considerable number of butterflies.
