Anche se siete in Thailandia come semplici turisti non potrete non notare la diffusione di piccole casine, più o meno elaboarate, collocate spesso sui cigli delle strade di fianco a case e a qualsiasi tipo di edifici.

 Sono le casine abitate dagli spiriti del luogo e chiamate in thailandese San Phra Phum. Si tratta di un elemento della spiritualità animistica fortemente radicato nella complessità della religiosità thailandese il cui elemento portante è il buddhismo theravada. In pratica per i thailandesi ogni luogo ha i suoi spiriti guardiani e, quando un terreno viene destinato ad ospitare una costruzione residenziale o commerciale, è necessario offrire prima una residenza alternativa per ospitare gli spiriti guardiani. 

La San Phra Phum puo' essere di materiali diversi e di diversi stili, non mancheranno mai le offerte, per lo più frutta, bibite e succhi di frutta.

All'interno delle Case degli Spiriti vengono spesso collocate delle statuine che rappresentano ballerine di danze tradizionali e scene di devozione, a volte verso una coppia di anziani.

La più famosa Casa degli Spiriti in Thaialndia è sicuramente quella del Hotel Erawan di Bangkok, nel tempio divenuta un vero luogo di culto sempre affollato e dove quotidianamente si esibiscono danzatrici tradizionali su commissione "per grazia ricevuta". Un luogo così popolare che venne scelto come obiettivo dell'attentato che sconvolse Bangkok il 17 agosto del 2015. 

Nel caso dell'Erawan hotel nel corso della costruzione si verificarono numerosi incidenti così si decise ogni volta di ampliare ulteriormente la casa degli spiriti, fino a dedicare l'edicola alla divinità braminica Prha Prom, ma si ritiene che nell'edicola risieda lo spirito di Prha Pinklao, uno dei fratelli del re Rama IV che dopo la sua morte è divenuto uno degli assistenti al servizio di Prha Prom.

In seguito la tradizione popolare scoprì che gli spiriti lì collocatisi concedevano a molte donne la grazia di rimanere incinte.

Even if you are in Thailand as a simple tourist you will not fail to notice the spread of small houses, more or less elaborate, often placed on the edge of the streets next to houses and all kinds of buildings.
These are the houses inhabited by local spirits and called San Phra Phum in Thai. It is an element of animistic spirituality strongly rooted in the complexity of Thai religiosity whose main element is Theravada Buddhism. Practically for the Thai people every place has its own guardian spirits and, when a plot of land is intended to house a residential or commercial building, it is necessary to first offer an alternative residence to house the guardian spirits.
The San Phra Phum can be of different materials and styles, there will always be offers, mostly fruit, drinks and fruit juices.
Inside the Spirits' Houses are often placed statuettes representing traditional dancers and scenes of devotion, sometimes to an elderly couple.
The most famous House of Spirits in Thailand is certainly that of the Hotel Erawan in Bangkok, in the temple that has become a real place of worship always crowded and where daily traditional dancers perform on commission "by grace received". A place so popular that it was chosen as the target of the attack that devastated Bangkok on August 17, 2015.
In the case of the Erawan hotel, numerous accidents occurred during the construction so it was decided each time to further expand the house of spirits, until the shrine was dedicated to the Brahmin god Prha Prom, but it is believed that the spirit of Prha Pinklao resides in the shrine, one of the brothers of King Rama IV who after his death became one of the assistants in the service of Prha Prom.
Later, popular tradition discovered that the spirits who had settled there gave many women the grace to become pregnant.
